Fresh produce does not stop when the weather cools. Plenty of local markets keep going.

When people picture a farmers market, they picture July. But a lot of the markets around Hampton Roads keep going well into the colder months, and a handful of them never close at all. If you are new to the area, or you have lived here for years and never looked, this is a good time of year to start a Saturday-morning habit. Below is a city-by-city rundown, based on a 2026 regional market guide published by 92.9 The Wave.

Check before you go: Market hours and end dates can shift with weather and holidays. The details below are what the guide listed for 2026. A quick look at each market's own page or social account the day before is worth the 30 seconds.

Markets That Stay Open Year-Round

Suffolk also has a Holiday Market at the Farmers Market at Bridgeport on December 5, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at 3832 Bridge Road.

Make It a Saturday Plan

Some of these pair well with other things going on in the area. Portsmouth's Olde Towne market is a short walk from the waterfront and the shops along High Street. Norfolk's East Beach market puts you a few minutes from the Chesapeake Bay shoreline. Hilton Village in Newport News is a small, walkable village with its own shops and restaurants. A Quiet Way to Get to Know a Neighborhood

If you are thinking about moving here, or moving across town, a farmers market is one of the easier ways to feel out a neighborhood. You see who shows up, how busy the area is on a weekend morning, and whether the pace suits you. It costs a few dollars of produce, and it tells you something a listing photo cannot. The neighborhood pages and city guides are a good companion for that kind of weekend scouting.
